Thoughts of autumn bring memories of from childhood of the crunch and crinkle of jumping into mounds of leaves, the scent of smoke from small piles of leaves burning in the road, the taste of hot chocolate, the mouth-watering smell of fresh pumpkin pie. As a young adult, I remember looking up at the almost neon colors of leaves in the sun against the bright, hard blue of the sky.
This year the first day of fall (autumnal equinox in the Northern Hemisphere) takes place tomorrow, September 23rd, when the sun shines directly on the equator, and the length of day is nearly equal.
