Peanuts Comic Strip


Peanuts, the comic strip written and illustrated by Charles Schultz, first appeared in newspapers on this date in 1950.

Peanuts was a syndicated daily and Sunday comic strip that ran from 1950 to 2000, It’s the most popular and influential comic strip in history, with 17,897 published in total, and a readership of 355 million at its peak that ran in 75 countries and was translated into 21 languages.

The comic strip focuses entirely on a miniature society of young children, with no shown adult characters. The main character, Charlie Brown, is meek, nervous and lacks self-confidence. He is unable to fly a kite, win a baseball game or kick a football.  Peanuts had philosophical, psychological and sociological overtones, was complex in the characters’ interactions that formed relationships that drove the strip.

Peanuts went on to become television specials and a movie, and its characters are beloved and instantly recognizable. (me and Wikipedia)
